Interview Tamia Dawn Osburn
by
Mary Jean Kelso
Growing up in a home where her father was an enthusiastic Sci-Fi fan, it seems only natural that Tamia Dawn Osburn would eventually turn to writing that included that genre. Blending science fiction and romance gives her and her readers the opportunity to enjoy both worlds. Here’s what she had to say about her writing:
1) Please tell me a little bit about your new release, The Warrior.
May and Jaquay’s story actually started in The Warlock. In this story, The Warrior, you can feel the attraction between them but neither one acted on it until May decided to go back to Earth, with a twisted man on her tail. The King of Wiccan informed Jaquay and sent him to watch after May since she’s a friend of the king’s mate.
2) What sparked the idea for the story?
The story came while I was writing The Warlock. I loved these characters so much that I didn’t write about them much in the first story. What I wanted, at the time, was a story of their own.
3) Is this your first novel or have you written others?
This is actually my fourth novel. My first novel is The Guardian of Paradise. The Warlock is the first story in the series, which is followed with Not Without You. The Warrior is the third in a seven book series. I do have one other book out with another publisher.
4) What do you project for the future? Do you have another novel in the works? Will there be a sequel?
As for my future, I’ll take it when it comes. I have several books coming out next year that are unique pieces and a three book series. As for sequels, The Warrior is the third in a seven book series and it will be followed with I’ll Be With You, Dage and Leslie’s story, which has a major surprise in store for the readers.
5) How do you write? Do you have a set time and set amount of production or do you work when the Muse hits?
I’m not sure how I write but I do most of it when the kids are in school and the hubby is working. I try to get as much as I can during the time I’m alone, except when I’m in town and doing errands and shopping on Fridays. One never finds me at home on that day. VBG>
6) What is the most difficult thing for you? Plotting? Naming characters? Coming up with a title? Going from rough draft to finished manuscript?
All of the above. When I have trouble coming up with names, I look in the phone book and a name catches my eye from TV or movies. That’s how I came up with the name for Kai in The Guardian of Paradise. Sometimes I do have trouble with a scene and I work it out within a day or two. Sometimes a week. Going from rough draft to a completed MS can be tough, too, but I get by with what I have in the end. As for plotting, the more twisted it sounds the better. LOL
7) Apparently, writing started very young for you. Just when did you first realize you wanted to pursue that career?
High school, I loved writing poetry but I became serious a couple of years ago. It started off as a dare from a friend of mine when she saw my book collection. Things started off from there and I joined a writing group and it happened too fast and here I am.
8) What tips do you have for other writers?
My only tip, that I give out, is to never give up writing. Don’t give up hope of becoming a published writer.
9) What are your aspirations? Do you dream to see your novel on the Best Seller’s list? To see your byline on a Movie of the Week? Be on Oprah’s Book Club? Is it posterity or prosperity that you would aim for or just to write a good story that affects someone else’s life?
It would be great to see my novel on the Best Seller’s list or have one become a movie or be on Oprah. Right now, I enjoy writing just to spin a good tale.
10) What writer do you most admire?
Too many to list, I enjoy a good read along with everyone else. Honestly, I love Dara Joy’s work along with Kathleen Morgan. I also discovered some great ebook authors as well as our very own Angela.
11) Do you write strictly Sci-fi Romance, now, or other genres as well?
Right now, mostly sci-fi. I’ve been trying contemporary but it wasn’t working out.
12) Is there anything you would like to see included in the interview?
I think this about sums it up. You’ve asked some pretty intense questions here, VBG>
