Interview Saje Williams

1) Saje, when did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

4th Grade, about 10 years old.  I knew how much I loved the craft even then. It's all I've wanted to do since.

2) Tell us a little bit about your book.

Loki's Sin is what I'm calling a 'Paranormal Science Fantasy' though a reviewer has referred to it as an 'urban fantasy.'  It's about a group of immortals trying to prepare the Earth against an invasion by a race of voracious aliens, and the great lengths that some of them will go to in order to preserve their adopted world.

3) What writers most influenced your own writing?

Almost too many to list, from a few different genres. Robert Heinlein, Roger Zelazny, Frank Herbert, Anne Bishop, Mercedes Lackey, Anne Rice, Julian May, etc., etc.

4) What is your writing schedule? Do you prefer writing in the morning or evening?

I don't have time in the morning, so I mostly do it in the evening.

5) For you, what is the best and worst part of writing the book?

Depends on the book. I like starting, but find the middle among the most difficult parts. Tying it all together at the end is a little tricky sometimes, but it's not as bad as getting there sometimes.

6) How long does it take you to write a book?

Well, the first three took about six months apiece. This last one is probably going to take anywhere between 9 months and a year.

7) Where do you find your ideas for your books?

It's a story I've been wanting to tell for several years now, just trying to find the right voice. With Loki's Sin, and its sequels, it feels as though I finally did.

8) Tell us a little bit about your “regular” life--kids, pets, hobbies, anything you'd care to share.

My wife and I are involved in canine rescue, specializing in the “difficult” Asian breeds. We have three dogs and three cats (five-if you count the two kittens) and a ball python. Other than pets, my primary hobbies are reading other people's work and political message boards.

9) What advice do you have for beginning writers?

Keep it up.  The only way to fail is to stop working at it.

10) Where might fans and readers contact you and will they be able to buy your book when it is released?

They can contact me through my website: www.sajewilliams.com, and the book will be available from at www.wings-press.com  in July.
