Interview Saje Williams

Anna Dynowski
1) Has writing always been a passion for you?
Since I started writing when I was very young, I'd have to say yes.
2) What do you think leads a person to create fiction, to create fantasy worlds?
Interesting question. I don't think I've ever really considered it before. Speaking strictly for me, it was originally because the worlds I wandered through, reading, never seemed to be enough. I always wanted more.
3) Have you ever, as a writer, been discouraged enough to want to fling your computer out into one of your imaginary worlds?
Plenty of times.
4) What prompted/inspired you to write Lady of Blades? In other words, where did you get the idea for this story?
Jasmine Tashae was one of my old characters from my RPG, and someone whose story needed to be told since her introduction in book III of the series, “Freak City.” She's almost an anti-hero, except that her whole motivation is the protection of innocents. She's willing to do things and go to extremes that few “heroes” could ever imagine.
5) How long did it take you to write Lady of Blades?
About nine months.
6) How did you come up with the title?
That's her nickname. She owns and magically wields nine different swords.
7) What character traits do you share with your main characters?
Determination and a belief in doing the right thing.
8) What effect do you hope to have on your readers? Do you want to convey a message or simply entertain?
Entertainment is the first objective, of course, but the message I want most to convey is a belief in humanity.
9) Is there another project on the horizon?
Always.
10) Where would you like to see yourself, as an author, in 5 years? 10 years?
I'd like to edit and publish an anthology series based in my universe. Maybe even a graphic novel series as well, if I were to find the right artist(s).
