Interview of Olga Vesta Button

Marilyn Gardiner
Olga: I'm glad to "meet" you. Haven't read anything of yours yet, but hope to do so in the near future. Hope you have fun with these questions.
You asked some nice questions, Marilyn. I'm pleased to meet you, too.
1) What is the genre in which you write. Is it also the same genre that you choose to read?
I love to read thrillers, romantic suspense, by writers like Steven King and Mary Higgins Clark. Anything interesting. There are many other authors that are good and that I enjoy.
2) Have you published before? If so, what and where?
No. No other novels. This is my first.
3) Can you tell us anything about family/significant others? Who? How many?
My husband, Charles and I have three sons; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
4) Besides writing/publishing, what are your passions? What jump-starts your adrenaline?
I've been a closet writer for many years, stashing away ideas and research. In the 80's there were writer's groups available. The 90's I began writing with the serious intent to become published. But I became discouraged with it. That's when I met an Angel, 'Lorraine Stephens.
5) Because we writers use all our senses to the max, I am wondering about yours: What is your favorite taste -- favorite sound -- favorite smell -- favorite touch.
Cream and butter. That first delicious cup of creamed coffee, passing the taste buds, swirling down your throat, waking you up. Butter, rich and thick on toast and potatoes. Music:My top favorite is Andre' Rieu and the Johaan Strauss Waltz's. Some ballet and other classics. The sound of happy children, footsteps of a child returning home. Of love, and caring. A flute, soft rain, and quiet when writing. The smell of flowers, freshly mowed grass, rain washed vegetation, clean clothes, squeaky hair, cinnamon and baked bread. Ummmm with loads of butter. The feel of a Baby's skin, rose petals and satin.
6) Has anyone special in your life inspired you to write?
Who inspired me? Lorraine Stephens. She is so special. She showed me how to leave my cocoon. My writing was more inspired then. She is truly 'THE WIND BENEATH MY WINGS.'
7) Is there an author you admire above all others? Aspire to write as well as...
I plead the 5th. There are so many out there.
8) Besides publishing a book, what is the single most exciting event that ever happened to you?
Besides receiving Lorraine’s advice? I write screenplays. I took my Log-line, (for "Eagle's Nest") to a Holloywood conference in 1999. From that information a Movie Producer called my husband before I caught a plane back home. My husband didn't know what to say. I was still too much in the closet. The Producer called later and wanted my script. No, I didn't sell my script. By the time I sent it, he'd already started on someone else's script. I was on a HIGH for sometime. But I love that guy because he opened the door for me. I just finished adapting a novel from a script. Every Novel I write, I adapt a script from, just in case. How's that for dreaming big?
9) Do you have a writing schedule or do you simply write as inspiration strikes?
I take notes when inspiration strikes. and work when I can, or often when I get the urge. Or if on a project I set a deadline for myself, and JUST DO IT.
10) What in your life is the thing of which you are the most proud? An accomplishment, a talent, an achievement, etc.?
My health is pretty good. I'm able to do dancersize an hour per day, and lost 20 lbs. Reaching my goal with Angel's help. My past years filled with family, gardening, my flowers, canning, and making appliqué quilts, some art stuff. And, all required for farm wives. I don't do much of that anymore....I will write my BIO someday, about those good(?)-old days.
Thank you, Olga Vesta Button
Congratulations Olga... Keep dreaming BIG!
