Interview Marguerite Arotin
by
James Scott DeLane
1) What was the inspiration for your novel The Locktender’s Daughter?
I have one very interesting muse, a real life Ohio canal counterfeiter served as the inspiration for my villain, Josiah Black
2) Does the The Locktender’s Daughter have a moral?
Of course. The moral is that a life so blinded by revenge and a heart so unwilling to love isn’t much of a life worth living. Bad things happen to us all, but we have to learn to put the past behind us so we can love again.
3) Do you profile your characters before you begin a new novel?
Sure do. I create pictures of them and interview them. My characters are very real to me.
4: Do you have a favorite author?
Without a doubt, Stephen King is my favorite.
5: Do you have a favorite genre?
I have a few favorites actually. I love historical romances, fantasy, and suspense.
6) Do you like to get feedback from your readers?
I love getting feedback from my readers. Let’s me know all my hard work is appreciated.
7) How long does it take you to write a novel?
About four-five months for the first draft, but rewrites always take longer because I like to keep rolling with the first draft before I revise.
8) What can readers expect to get from The Locktender’s Daughter?
I love Ohio history and I hope that maybe I taught the readers a little something about the canal in the context of a rollicking heartland romance.
9) Can your fans expect any new novels?
Sure can. I’m working on a series of fantasy romances and sketching out the details of a planned series while I work on the first draft of another Ohio-set historical romance.
10) What would you like your readers to know about you?
I’ve been happily married to my husband for twelve years now and he’s the one who taught me that happy endings can happen ;-). I’ve been a proud buckeye girl for all my life and I have a five year old son who keeps me on my toes when I’m not writing.
