Interview with Jayme Evans

1)       What gave you the idea of writing this novel?

I have loved vampires for many years. I don’t really know why but I like all the weird stuff in TV and books, so I write what I like to read and watch. I like just about all areas of paranormal, like time-travel, futuristic, fantasy and vampires. I’m not into gore, so my vampire books are ‘tame’ compared to most.

2)       Have you always loved to write?

Yes, I have. I’ve been writing since I was a young girl, but seriously since 1992, when my oldest son went off to college. I took the Writer’s Digest Novel Writing Workshop and Grammar classes and kept going from there. I found out early on that my writing needed major help. I could find the words to put on paper, but no one would have wanted to read them until I learn what writing was about.

3)       Does a family or friend inspire the characters in your book?

No, they are strictly fictional. I don’t have anyone in mind when I start a story, not even family or actors, so when someone says who does your character look like, I have to search through pictures to find someone who resembles them.

4)       Do you write full-time or do you work outside the home as well?

I write part time, mainly when I have time but I work out of my home as a web administrator and artist.

5)       What books have you written?

Already published with Wings, I have a romantic suspense, Sinister Knight, a time travel, To Sail Through time and the first of my Eternity vampire series, Eternity’s Many loves. This book, Eternity’s Lonely Heart is the second of the series.

6)       What are you working on now?

I’m currently putting the last words in for the third book in the Eternity series, Eternity’s Sweet Endeavor.

7)       Do you write from an outline, or do you simply sit down and let your imagination take over and write?

I write by the seat of my pants. The first time through the story, the scenes just flow as they will, and then I go back through over and over and plump up the overall story.

8)       Who is your favorite author and why?

Well, I would say she is only one of my favorites, but that would be Lori Herter, because she wrote the first vampire romance series that I ever read. I guess she showed me that the weird stuff can be fun too and heroes can have fangs and be nice guys, instead of evil.

9)       If you could give one tip to an aspiring author, what would it be?

Write, write and write. The best way to get to submission is to continually have something to tell.

10)   What do your family and friends think of you as an author?

Well, they are supported, for the most part, but my sons really think I’m weird when writing about vampires. Maybe I am.

11)   How long does it take you to write your novels?

I have no idea. I usually work on several ideas at a time. Rarely do I work on one book, like I am now, because if I think about something that adds to a story that I have started, I’m in the mood to work on that one.

12)   How much of your own personality and life experience go into your writing?

Other than writing the weird stuff and being weird myself, I don’t know if any of my personality comes through and certainly not any of my life experiences. I haven’t met any vampires or aliens lately and I haven’t been sucked back in time.
