Interview Angela Verdenius

1) Tell us a little bit about your book. How did you come up with the idea?
The hero is actually a side character from a previous book, Love's Sweet Assassin. He was a bit 'up himself', and definitely needed to be taken down a peg or two. He was a bit of a favourite of mine. LOL! He's one of the personal bodyguards for Kiile of Argon (LSA), and while on holiday, falls prey to a little thief, who actually turns out to be one of the Felys breed, once kept as sex slaves. She's outrageous and not attracted to the Argon at all. But she's coming into heat, an unknown and dangerous path for Marten, and to make it worse, there's a cyborg after Lysie, and he's out for her blood.
2) I see you're a prolific writer. What is your writing schedule like?
I try to write every day. I'm a nightshift nurse, so I write in between getting up in the afternoon and cooking tea <g>. I write on my days off--to me a successful day is writing all day! But by the time I check emails, etc, it's sometimes only half a day. When on holidays, I take a pad and pen with me. In fact, I have paper and a pen on the door of my car, too, for any ideas that hit me while driving LOL.
3) What inspires you as a writer?
Music, people, events, books, history and mythology. There is so much happening around us all the time. We just need to take the time to 'listen, watch and learn'.
4) What are some of your other novel releases from Wings?
So far, there are 5 books already released, all from the futuristic romance Heart And Soul series. These are: Heart of an Outlaw, Soul of a Mercenary, Heart of the Betrayed, Love's Sweet Assassin and Soul of a Hunter. They feature the Reeka warrior women, the Daamen traders, and the sensual Argons. But I'm finding as the series goes on, that new characters from different places are appearing--a witch, a pirate, a mutant, etc <g>
5) What is your favorite part about writing books with an "out of this world" setting?
I can create my own laws and worlds, as well as creations, characters and customs. It's fascinating and fun to be able to write without worrying about what is 'normal' and what isn't. The impossible becomes possible, and there's so much variety. You're limited only by your own imagination.
6) Who would you describe as an ideal science fiction hero? You can use actual characters, if you like.
Eric Bana, as he's played several different kinds of characters now (The Hulk, Chopper, Troy). Johnny Depp is another good actor, who is very versatile. He can be either romantic or funny or... well, just about anything. And Orlando Bloom when he played Legolas in Lord of the Rings... oh boy!!
7) Who are some of your favorite authors and why?
Sherrilyn Kenyon (Dark Hunters) and Christine Feehan (Dark series--Carpathina vampires), for their imagination in putting a different view of vampires, and for romance on the dark side. <g> Dara Joy for her ability to make you laugh, and her humorous and sexy characters. Laurell K Hmailton for her ability to blend dark eroticsim and horror, and make it seem so 'normal'.
8) What would you describe as an ideal "writing day"? How close to this is your current writing schedule?
Getting up at 10am and writing all day, with ideas flowing freely... along with the diet coke. <g>. I get a day like this about once a week--clearly not enough!
9) What would you like to do as a writer that you haven't done yet?
Have a best seller, and be able to travel the world doing research for books. New Orleans, Salem, the UK. So much history. I'd also like to meet all the people who have written to me about my books, and visit the friends I've made since writing and discovering the wide world of the web!
10) What projects are you currently working on?
No 9 in the Heart And Soul series, titled Heart of a Traitor. I'm also playing with a horror story, and a fantasy, but these I do in between writing my series.
